ETHEREAL
I fell in love with the dis track Naz made about Jay Z called ‘Ethers’ and then I started looking into the meaning of Ethereal and played around with abbreviations of it. I wanted to keep thinking of ways that I could communicate things that I find beautiful…just kind of learn my language through textiles…whatever that means.
It’s things that we wear but it also has an artistic side to it where you can play with functionality and silhouettes.
I feel like I always try to play with societies double standards in terms of what they feel is right for male/female and just push boundaries in terms of gender and binary aspects. I find that oriental fashion tends to have a lot of silhouettes that are very square, and I feel like that kind of helps with being very fluid between the different shapes and sizes we all come in.
I would say my personal style is very moody. I dress in whatever mood...sometimes I feel like dressing grungy or like the African queen that I am. My style always switches up! However, I feel I dress.
That is something I'm still working on. I always try to communicate things that I visualize and executing that visual is my way of communicating. I feel like whatever I have inside getting it in a 3D form and showing it is always something I'm learning and relearning in a sense of like ways I could do it differently and I feel like fashion is a language and learning to communicate mine in 3D form is definitely gonna be a long time lesson. I don't know if I'll ever truly accomplish that in my lifetime but if I could get really close to it that'll be great!
Be very careful and weary of the energy you choose to keep around you.
