I started doing collage to show how I feel and to send my message out. I was never great with words to convey how I feel and up until that point I was doing photography and videography, but I had a larger message and bigger ideas that I couldn’t convey in the way I wanted to.
Collage allows me to express myself freely- it’s like me and the universe working together in a way- two completely separate images that have nothing to do with each other, but they somehow work perfectly together. There are no rules to collage- its just me and my mind- I like not having rules. To me it was like sampling but with images and that’s what my brain is good at. It also allowed me to get in touch with my more feminine side and really get a love for the female figure, a fascination I didn’t know I had before.
One of my biggest influences is Terry Gilliam- his animation work on Monty Python with the cut out characters- once I saw that and how easy it could be to create your own universe, I was hooked.
I would tell myself never to worry, love is real, it’s you- just create- you will find your happiness there.
